Spartans start week with back-to-back wins

St. Joseph-Ogden’s boys’ basketball team started the week with back-to-back victories and reached the 20-win mark for the season.
The Spartans thumped Central Catholic, 73-61, on Monday (Feb. 7) in Bloomington and followed up at home on Tuesday (Feb. 8) with a 74-54 conquest over Rantoul.
Ty Pence registered 31 points and nine rebounds at BCC.
Andrew Beyers posted 17 points and eight rebounds. Brock Trimble scored 11 points and Logan Smith handed out seven assists.
BCC vaulted into a 25-11 lead after one quarter and SJ-O didn’t move ahead to stay until the 5-minute mark of the third period, 43-41.
Against Rantoul, Pence collected his sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Beyers notched a season-high 24 points to go with six rebounds. Smith added 14 points and six assists. Coy Taylor contributed nine points and three assists.
SJ-O surged ahead of the Eagles, 20-6, after one quarter.
SJ-O (20-6 overall) returns to action on Friday (Feb. 11) at Tolono Unity.
