Four Oakwood/Salt Fork wrestlers qualify for state tournament

Four Oakwood/Salt Fork wrestlers qualified for the Class 1A state tournament based on their performances on Saturday (Feb. 12) in the Stanford Olympia Sectional.
The top four finishers in each of 14 weight classes advanced to state.
Junior Reef Pacot (132 pounds) and senior Joe Lashuay (160 pounds) were the champions in their weight classes.
Teammates whose seasons were extended are freshman Pedro Rangel (126 pounds) and sophomore Bryson Capansky (138 pounds).
They each finished in fourth place.
Pacot (39-4) won three matches at sectional, including a pin in the finals.
Lashuay (33-5) was also 3-0 at the sectional, including a narrow 7-6 triumph in the finals.
Capansky was 3-2 at sectional and Rangel was 2-2 at the sectional. They each registered one pin. Capansky is 37-13 for the season. Rangel has an overall record of 30-6.
Three Oakwood/Salt Fork wrestlers fell short in their bids to advance to state.
At 106 pounds, Brayden Edwards was 2-2, with one pin. The freshman finished the season with a 27-18 record.
At 145 pounds, Grant Brewer was 1-2, with one pin, and ended his season with a 33-12 record. The sophomore was one win away from securing a state berth.
At 170 pounds, Brysen Vasquez lost twice and concluded the year with a 27-15 record. He is a sophomore.
The three-day state meet begins on Thursday (Feb. 12) at the University of Illinois State Farm Center.
