Two of the three St. Joseph-Ogden wrestlers who competed in the Stanford Olympia Class 1A Sectional on Saturday (Feb. 12) qualified for the state tournament.
Sophomore Emmitt Holt (113 pounds) and freshman Holden Brazelton (120 pounds) advanced to sectional championship matches to ensure that their seasons will continue.
Brazelton won all four of his sectional bouts, improving to 41-3 for the season after winning his individual weight class. Brazelton won one match by pin.
Holt finished 3-1 at the sectional, placing second. He posted one pin.
Spartan Owen Birt was a near-miss in his quest to reach state. He won three of five of his five bouts, but was one win shy of continuing his season.
Birt ends his junior year with a 23-10 record.
The three-day state meet begins on Thursday (Feb. 17) at the University of Illinois State Farm Center.
