Comets to play in Regional Championship

Ashlynn Pinnick scored all seven of her points in the fourth quarter on Monday (Feb. 14) to spark the Oakwood Comets in a semifinal-round Class 2A regional girls’ basketball victory over Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, 30-27, at Paxton.
B-H/R-A zoomed into a 10-4 lead after one quarter. The teams were tied at halftime, 10-10, but B-H/R-A took a 15-14 lead into the last quarter.
Five Comets scored between four and eight points, led by Addie Wright, with eight points.
Following Pinnick were Kalie Tison (six points), Jaydah Arrowsmith (five points), and Karsen Rupp (four points).
Oakwood was 13-for-19 from the free-throw line. Pinnick, Rupp, Tison, and Wright combined to make 12-of-12 attempts.
The Comets (15-16) return to action in the regional championship game on Friday (Feb. 18) – weather permitting – at 7 p.m. against Paxton-Buckley-Loda.
Oakwood is chasing its first regional title in girls’ basketball since 2017.
