By Fred Kroner
St. Joseph-Ogden freshman Holden Brazelton won three of six matches at the IHSA Class 1A wrestling state meet at 120 pounds and placed sixth.
All wrestlers in each weight class who secure top-six finishes are accorded All-State status.
The three-day tournament at the UI State Farm Center ended on Saturday (Feb. 19).
Brazelton won his state debut by pin in 45 seconds, but suffered a 3-1 loss in the quarterfinals.
He was victorious in back-to-back elimination matches, winning 3-1 and 7-3 before dropping a 1-0 decision and being pinned in the fifth-place bout in 3:25.
Brazelton ends the season with a team-best 44-6 record.
SJ-O had one other state-qualifier.
Emmitt Holt, a sophomore at 113 pounds, was pinned in 59 seconds and was eliminated after an 8-4 loss.
He concluded his season with a 33-9 record.
Excluding 2021, when the IHSA did not sanction a state series, SJ-O’s program has produced state placers in eight of the past 10 state wrestling meets.
