Comets end season after winning 9 of last 14 games

Oakwood’s girls’ basketball season came to an end on Friday (Feb. 18) at Paxton-Buckley-Loda when the host school posted a 55-40 victory in the championship game of a Class 2A regional tournament.
Addie Wright led the Comets with 22 points.
PBL enlarged a 10-9 lead after one quarter to 28-19 at halftime, but the Comets pulled within 36-33 after three quarters.
Ashlynn Pinnick hit nine points for Oakwood. Kalie Tison meshed five points and Karsen Rupp contributed four points.
The Comets connected on 7-of-9 free throws.
In the pre-game three-point shooting contest, Rupp was one of four players from the regional site to qualify for the Peotone Sectional as an individual shooter.
The Comets end the year with a 15-17 record, but with wins in nine of their last 14 games.
Five squad members led – or shared the team-lead – in scoring throughout the season.
Wright set the pace in 17 games. Pinnick led in 12 games. Rupp led in three games, Jaydah Arrowsmith in two games and Tison in one game.
The team’s top scorers were Wright (14.3 average), Pinnick (10.7 average) and Rupp (8.0 average).
Pinnick hit a team-high eight three-pointers. Arrowsmith had seven and Wright six.
Rupp was the most accurate free throw shooter (60.6 percent) followed by Pinnick (54.8 percent).
The Oakwood seniors were Pinnick, Rupp and Ali Reed.
