Villa Grove softball picks up win in Tennessee tournament

Villa Grove went 1-4 in a two-day softball tournament in Murfreesboro, Tenn., which ended on Saturday (March 26).
The Blue Devils defeated Father Ryan, 11-6. Alison Pangburn had four hits, two of which were triples. She also scored three runs and drove in three runs.
Kaylee Arbuckle and Logan Lillard each posted two hits. Arbuckle blasted a home run and knocked in three runs.
Alex Brown pitched all seven innings and earned the win. She allowed six hits and two walks while striking out four batters.
On Friday (March 25), VG lost to Gibson Southern, 10-1, and to Plainville, 11-0.
Against Gibson Southern, Lillard socked two hits. Arbuckle homered and drove in both runs. Lillard took the loss. In five innings, she fanned three batters and walked no one.
Against Plainville, the lone Blue Devil hits were by Pangburn and Maci Clodfelder. Emma Bratten-Noice pitched five innings and suffered the loss.
On Saturday (March 26), Villa Grove dropped a 9-8 decision to Andrean and a 12-4 decision to Silver Creek.
Against Andrean, Chloe Reardon was 3-for-3. Brown and Clodfelder each poked two hits, including a home run for each.
Villa Grove scored four runs in the top of the sixth to grab an 8-7 lead, but Andrean scored twice against Lillard in the bottom of the inning – neither run was earned – and escaped with the triumph.
Against Silver Creek, Clodfelder contributed two hits. Both Kayln Cordes and Pangburn hit home runs. Cordes’ shot was a three-run blast.
Lillard pitched six innings, walked no one and struck out six. She suffered the loss.
Villa Grove (3-6) returns to action on Monday (March 28) at home against Salt Fork.
