Jones and Martinie hit solo home runs
By Fred Kroner
Addy Martinie and Peyton Jones lofted solo home runs on Monday (April 4), but that was all of the offense that the St. Joseph-Ogden softball team could muster in a 4-2 loss at home to Bloomington Central Catholic.
Addison Frick, Kennedy Hudson and Martinie each delivered two hits for the Spartans.
Three Spartans have delivered hits in all eight of the team’s games: Shayne Immke, Jones and Martinie.
Alyssa Acton pitched a complete game, but suffered the loss for SJ-O in its Illini Prairie Conference opener. She walked two and struck out three batters.
On Wednesday (April 6), Maggie Ward pitched all seven innings in a 5-2 triumph over visiting Heyworth. She walked one and struck out five.
Acton (2-for-3) was the lone Spartan with more than one hit. Frick drove in two runs and Kelsey Martlage scored twice.
Frick, Martlage and Ward all socked doubles.
The Spartans (6-3) return to action on Thursday (April 7) at Rantoul.
