Comets place eighth at Salt Fork meet

Austin McDaniel placed second in the triple jump and Oakwood teammate Saul Carrillo captured third in the 400 meters on Thursday (April 7), helping the Comets to eighth place in a 12-team boys’ track and field meet at Salt Fork.

McDaniel’s best jump was 11.86 meters (38 feet and 9 inches). Carrillo’s 400 time was 56.63 seconds.

Austin McDaniel also placed in three other events. He was sixth in the long jump (5.64 meters or 18 feet and 5 inches), seventh in the 110-meter high hurdles (18.90 seconds) and eighth in the 300-meter hurdles (49.03 seconds).

Thomas Wells was also a double placer in individual events. He ran fifth in the 3,200 meters (11:32.48) and seventh in the 1,600 meters (5:35.34).

Carrillo was a part of two relays which scored points. He joined with Connor Smith, Jakob Rupp and Kaden McDaniel for a fourth-place finish in the 1,600-meter relay (4:12.91).

Smith, Connor Moss, Macen Phillips and Carrillo teamed up for a 49.94 time in the 400-meter relay, which ended in seventh place.

Rupp ended seventh in the 800 meters (2:24.10).

Oakwood had two placers in the discus: Devin Sanders was fifth (34.49 meters or 112 feet and 8 inches) and Doug Myers was 10th (32.21 meters or 105 feet and 6 inches).

The Comets’ 800-meter relay took eighth place in 1:49.13. Sharing the baton were Moss, Kaden McDaniel, Phillips and Bryson McDaniel.

Bryson McDaniel tied for 10th in the 200 meters (26.31 seconds).

Salt Fork won team honors with 110 points. Oakwood totaled 33 points.

Oakwood returns to action on Tuesday (April 12) in another meet at Salt Fork.
