Oakwood’s softball team ended the week by splitting a pair of high-scoring one-run decisions.
The Comets won at Iroquois West on Friday (April 8), 12-11, but dropped a 16-15 decision at Paxton-Buckley-Loda on Saturday (April 9) with the home team scoring a walk-off run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Seniors Savannah Nevitt and Alaina Rothwell both had two hits at Iroquois West. Another senior, Karsen Rupp, stole three bases.
Oakwood broke an 8-8 tie with a four-run third-inning outburst. Driving in runs that inning were Samantha Dunavan, Cloe Johnson and Rothwell.
Gracie Enos captured the win.
Against PBL, Bella Bradford, Olivia Fegett and Nevitt each socked three hits to spearhead the Comets’ 18-hit attack.
Oakwood scored a season-high 12 runs in the fifth inning. Bradford, Fegett and Nevitt drove in runs in the inning as did Rupp, Enos and Rylee Wright.
Enos pitched six innings, walked one and struck out six batters.
Oakwood (2-6) returns to action on Monday (April 11) at Watseka.
