Oakwood baseball outlasts Georgetown-Ridge Farm

Oakwood pushed across a run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning on Wednesday (April 20) to capture a 6-5 baseball win at home over Georgetown-Ridge Farm.
Josh Young was 3-for-3 and Matthew Miller registered three RBI for the Comets.
Miller and Dalton Hobick landed two hits each. Hobick and Young both scored two runs.
Hobick picked up the win in relief of Grant Powell. Hobick worked two innings and notched five strikeouts.
On Tuesday (April 19), the Comets suffered a 10-2 loss at home to St. Joseph-Ogden.
Bryson Myers and Joshua Ruch had the team’s runs batted in. Powell and Young scored the runs.
Oakwood was held to six hits. Others besides Myers, Powell, Ruch and Young with hits were Hobick and Brody Taflinger.
Alec Harrison pitched three innings and took the loss. He registered one strikeout. Taflinger relieved and permitted one earned run in four innings. He fanned one batter as well.
On Monday(April 18), pitchers from both Oakwood and Hoopeston Area fired matching four-hitters, but the Cornjerkers topped the visiting Comets 3-1 in a Vermilion Valley Conference game.
Oakwood’s Travis Tiernan was the hard-luck loser. He struck out eight and walked one in six innings.
Griffin Trees scored the Comets’ lone run. He had one hit as did teammates Myers, Powell and Young.
Oakwood (8-7) returns to action on Thursday (April 21) at Seeger, Ind.
