Wright, Trimble win events at Monticello meet

Two St. Joseph-Ogden athletes were individual winners on Saturday (April 23) in a freshmen-sophomore boys’ track and field meet at Monticello.
The meet was divided into three categories. In the freshmen-only division, SJ-O was fifth in the 10-team meet with 20 points. In the sophomore-only category, the Spartans were third with 33 points. In the section combining freshmen and sophomores, SJ-O was ninth with eight points.
Mitchell Wright was the winner in the sophomore shot put (35 feet, 7 inches). Brock Trimble was triumphant in the sophomore discus (134 feet, 9 inches).
The Spartans had two other placers in the sophomore shot and discus. Drew Thurman was fourth in the shot put (33 feet, 9 inches) and Wright was second in the discus (96 feet, 7 inches).
SJ-O’s other placer in the sophomore division was Jackson Ennis (sixth in the 200 meters in 27.88 seconds).
In the freshmen-sophomore division, the lone Spartan points came from Carson Maroon, the runner-up in the 3,200 meters (11 minutes, 9.14 seconds).
In freshmen-only events, Kyler Swanson and Carson Sarnecki were two-event placers.
Swanson was fifth in the 400 meters (1:01.44) and eighth in the 200 meters (29.05 seconds). Sarnecki was the winner in the discus (116 feet, 4 inches) and took seventh in the shot put (29 feet, 7 inches).
The other SJ-O points were scored by Jackson Ennis, the runner-up in the discus (115 feet, 4 inches).
SJ-O returns to action on Friday (April 29) when it hosts the Spartan Classic.
