Stevens makes varsity debut with win over Maroa-Forsyth

Madison Stevens became the sixth St. Joseph-Ogden softball player with a pitching victory on Monday (April 25) when she worked the first six innings of a 14-8 win at Maroa-Forsyth.

Stevens walked one and struck out three in her varsity debut. Alyssa Acton pitched the final inning and didn’t allow a run.

Jacey Lewis sparked the Spartans’ 13-hit attack by going 3-for-3 and scoring four runs. Contributing two hits apiece were Hallie Brazelton, Peyton Jones, Addy Martinie and Ava Northern.

Jones finished with three runs scored and three RBI. Brazelton, Lewis and Martinie recorded two RBI apiece.

On Tuesday (April 26), Acton fired her second shutout of the season as the Spartans topped Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, 10-0, in St. Joseph. Acton (4-1) pitched a two-hitter. She walked one and struck out four. In her last seven pitching appearances, she hasn’t issued more than one walk.

Leading the hit parade for the Spartans – with two apiece – were Acton, Addison Frick, Martinie, Kelsey Martlage and Grace Osterbur. Acton delivered three RBI.

Frick, Jones and Osterbur all scored two runs.

A two-run double by Lewis resulted in a walk-off win.

On Wednesday (April 27), the Spartans traveled to Westville and scored an 11-1 victory.

Acton pitched all five innings.

Jones spearheaded the offense, collecting a triple and two home runs while driving in six runs. Brazelton was also 3-for-3, with one home.

Martlage got in on the long-ball action with a homer among her two hits. Other Spartans with two hits were Lewis and Martinie.

SJ-O (17-7-1) returns to action on Thursday (April 28) at home against Mahomet-Seymour.
