SJO girls track and field places eighth at Monticello Invite

Abby Behrens and Savanna Franzen turned in the top individual performances for the St. Joseph-Ogden girls’ track and field team on Friday (April 29) at the Monticello Invitational.
Behrens was the runner-up in the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches) and Franzen captured second place in the 800 meters (2 minutes, 25.44 seconds).
The Spartans also had a second-place relay. The 1,600-meter foursome, featuring Kailyn Ingram, Helene Jones, Franzen and Hope Rajlich were timed in 4:14.22.
SJ-O tied for eighth in the team standings with 33 points. Winner Mount Zion recorded 86 points.
The Spartans had four top-10 field event placers besides Behrens.
Ashley Eldridge ended sixth in the shot put (30 feet, 8 inches), Emily Elsbernd was eighth in the long jump (14 feet, 9 inches), Alyssa Hamilton was 10th in the discus (98 feet, 2 inches) and Joselyn Frerichs was 10th in the triple jump (29 feet,9 inches).
Two Spartan relays earned fifth-place finishes.
The 400-meter unit included Alexis Wirth, Elsbernd, Ashlyn Lannert and Rajlich. Their cumulative time was 53.51 seconds.
The 800-meter relay featured Wirth, Elsbernd, Grace Schmitz and Rajlich. They were timed in 1:55.90.
Lannert (in the 300 hurdles at 50.69 seconds) and Ava Knap (in the 1,600 meters in 5:27.34) were each fifth overall.
Other SJ-O runners among the top 10 were: Jones (seventh in the 400 meters at 1:05.37), Ingram (eighth in the 800 meters at 2:40.42) and Lauren Lannert (10th in the 200 meters in 29.45 seconds).
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday (May 3) in the Illini Prairie Conference meet at Chillicothe IVC.
