Taylor wins 400 at Vermilion County Conference meet

Nikita Taylor won the 400-meter title on Friday (May 6) in the Vermilion County girls’ track and field meet at Hoopeston Area.

Taylor’s time was 1 minute, 8.81 seconds.

Teammate Alyssa Wells was the runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles (57.60 seconds).

Oakwood placed fifth in the seven-school meet with 42 points. The meet champion was Salt Fork with 135 points.

The Comets had three relay entries that recorded third-place finishes.

Taylor Smoot, Wells, Luci Morris and Taylor stopped the clock in 1:00.00 in the 400-meter relay.

In the 800-meter relay, the foursome of Smoot, Gwen Cambron, Morris and Wells were timed in 2:08.61.

Wells, Cambron, Taylor and Smoot were third in the 1,600-meter relay. Their collective time was 5:07.12.

Other top-eight performers for Oakwood were Taylor (fourth in the long jump at 14 feet, 1 inch), Morris (sixth in the long jump at 12 feet, 10 inches), Quinn Sperry (sixth in the discus at 58 feet, 5 inches, and seventh in the shot put at 23 feet, 10 inches) and Cambron (seventh in the 100 meters in 14.65 seconds).

Oakwood returns to action on Monday (May 9) in the Vermilion Valley Conference meet at Salt Fork.
