Champaign Central defeats Oakwood baseball
By Fred Kroner
Grant Powell, Dalton Hobick, Josh Young and Brody Taflinger had hits in each game, but Oakwood lost a non-conference baseball doubleheader on Saturday (May 14) at Champaign Central.
The Maroons won the opener, 11-1, and edged the Comets, 9-7, in the nightcap.
Hobick was 4-for-7 for the two games and scored a run in each game. Matthew Miller drove in runs in each contest.
Powell swiped a base in each game as Oakwood extended its streak of consecutive games with a stolen base to all 28 that have been played this spring.
On Thursday (May 12), the Comets were held to three hits – singles by Bryson Myers, Powell and Young – and dropped an 11-1 decision to visiting Westville.
Young stole a base and scored the lone Oakwood run.
Travis Tiernan took the loss. He walked five and fanned five in 4 2/3 innings. In a game where Oakwood committed six errors, Tiernan allowed just two earned runs.
Oakwood (14-14) returns to action on Monday (May 16) at home against Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley in a first-round game of the Tolono Unity Class 2A Regional.
