Villa Grove softball triumphs over Rantoul

Logan Lillard fired a four-hitter and struck out a season-high nine batters on Thursday (May 12) as the Villa Grove softball team returned to its winning ways with a 6-3 triumph at Rantoul.
Villa Grove managed just four hits, but one was a home run by Maci Clodfelder, who added another clout to her school-record total which now stands at 12.
Emma Bratten-Noice socked a double. Alex Brown and Kayln Cordes contributed singles.
Alison Pangburn and Chloe Reardon each stole two bases.
On Friday (May 13), Westville used a seven-run eighth inning to defeat the Blue Devils, 9-2.
Pangburn slammed her eighth home run, also driving in Cordes to account for VG’s scoring in the third inning.
Besides the hits by Pangburn and Cordes, Lillard slapped a double and Kaylee Arbuckle landed a single.
Brown (11-7) pitched all eight innings for VG. She walked one and struck out 10.
Villa Grove (18-13) returns to action on Tuesday (May 17) in a Class 1A regional it is hosting. The Blue Devils will play either Chrisman or Georgetown-Ridge Farm in the semifinals.
