Dudley to represent Oakwood at IESA State meet
By Fred Kroner
Seventh-grader Carsen Dudley will be the lone state-meet competitor for Oakwood in the boys’ Class 3A state track and field meet.
Dudley advanced from the Shelbyville Sectional on Saturday (May 14) in the high jump. He cleared 5 feet, 1 inch and ended in third place.
Dudley also had third-place sectional finishes – but did not reach state – in the shot put (33 feet, 9 inches) and the discus (87 feet, 8 inches).
Teammate Cale Thomas finished fifth in both the 100 meters (13.29 seconds) and the 400 meters (1:03.24).
Gauge Carrillo was sixth in the shot put (29 feet, 4 inches).
Oakwood’s top seventh-grade relay was the 800-meter foursome of Thomas, Nick Cadle, Alex Silha and Kyler Johnson. They were timed in 2:02.41.
Oakwood’s eighth-graders had no state-qualifiers, but produced fifth-place finishes from long-jumper Sailor Harrison (17 feet, 1 inch) and its 400-meter relay.
Sharing the relay baton were Jack Ajster, Ben Darling, Harrison and Trevor McCall. They stopped the clock in 55.49 seconds.
McCall added a sixth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (17.88 seconds) and Harrison recorded a seventh-place showing in the 400 meters (1:00.51).
The IESA state meet will be held on Friday (May 20) and Saturday (May 21) at the East Side Centre in East Peoria.
