Miller finishes seventh for PV-O at IESA State track meet

Seventh-grader Atleigh Miller was the lone Prairieview Ogden athlete to qualify for the girls’ IESA state track and field meet based on results at the Saturday (May 7) Rossville-Alvin Sectional.

Miller was the 100-meter hurdles winner, finishing in a time of 18.8 seconds.

At state on Friday (May 13) and Saturday (May 14), Miller finished seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (18.91 seconds).

She placed second in the long jump (13 feet, 7 ¾ inches) at sectionals, but did not advance to state in that event.

Also placing second at sectionals were Olivia Berlatsky in the 100-meter hurdles (20.17 seconds), and Greta Goldenstein, in the discus (70 feet, 11 inches).

Teammate Grace Bressner was a three-event sectional placer. She ran third in the 400 meters (1:09.56), sixth in the 100 meters (15.09 seconds) and sixth in the 800 meters (3:21.33).

Other PVO seventh-graders among the top eight in individual events at sectionals were: Bella Frerichs (third in the 1,600 in 7:29.51), Korrine Travis (third in the shot put at 21 feet, 11 inches, and fourth in the discus at 60 feet, 4 inches), Kellyn Irwin (fourth in the 800 meters in 3:10.52 and fourth in the long jump at 13 feet, 1 ¼ inches), and Goldenstein (fourth in the shot put at 21 feet, 8 inches).

Two PVO relays fared well.

The 400-meter foursome, which featured Bressner, Frerichs, Irwin and Miller, placed second in 1:01.95.

The 800-meter grouping of Leah Pruitt, Alyssa Osterbur, Makayla Hesterburg and Travis ended fourth in 2:36.08.

Potomac won team honors in the seventh-grade meet with 89 points. PVO was second in the10-school meet with 82 points.

In the eighth-grade division, Leah Pruitt’s third-place finish in the discus (61 feet, 7 inches) was the top PVO placement at the sectional.

Kellyn Irwin ended in fourth place in the 100-meter hurdles (20.38 seconds). Ainsley Rhoton placed fifth in the long jump (12 feet, 10 inches).

PVO also got points from its 400-meter relay unit of Rhoton, Anna Hammond, Olivia Berlatsky and Taylor Maddock.  Their combined time was 1:03.44.

Cissna Park won team honors with 161 points. PVO was fifth with 20 points. Ten schools participated.

  1. That 6th grade group of girls (which most that you mentioned are) at PVO will be something to behold! And congrats to Atleigh!! Well deserved feature. In addition, Greta Goldenstein (a PVO 6th grader) took home 8th in discus as well!

    But don’t forget the PVO boys! They had some excellent finishes at State and Sectionals as well.

    A lot to be happy about and a lot to grow on for that little school.
