Three Mustangs place in top 10 at IESA State Track and Field meet

Eighth-grader Coy Hayes was a three-event winner for the Prairieview Ogden boys’ Class 1A eighth-grade track and field sectional meet on Saturday (May 7) at Rossville-Alvin.
Hayes qualified for the IESA state finals in the 800 meters (2 minutes, 28.98 seconds), the shot put (35 feet) and the discus (126 feet, 4 inches).
At state on Friday (May 13) and Saturday (May 14), Hayes produced a second-place finish in the discus (113 feet, 4 inches), a seventh-place finish in the 800 meters (2:20.10) and a ninth-place finish in the shot put (36 feet, 3 inches).
Teammate Vance McComas was the runner-up in two sectional events, but did not advance to state.
He was second in the shot put (33 feet, 5 ½ inches) and the discus (105 feet, 7 inches).
In the team race, PVO was third among 10 teams with 46 points. Meet champion Rossville-Alvin accumulated 53 ½ points.
Three Prairieview Ogden seventh-graders moved on to state.
Aiden Hundley was a double winner at sectionals, taking top honors in the 400 meters (1:03.01) and the 800 meters (2:26.57).
Garrett Loschen won the high jump (4 feet, 11 inches) and Jack Wear was second in the 110-meter hurdles (18.79 seconds), but met the pre-determined qualifying standard.
At state, Loschen was the IESA Class 1A runner-up in the high jump (5 feet, 1 inch). Hundley recorded a sixth-place finish at state in the 800 meters (2:23.75) and wound up 10th in the 400 meters (1:04.62). Wear placed sixth at state in the seventh-grade 110-meter hurdles (18.81 seconds).
Other PVO athletes among the top eight at sectional, but not advancing to state were Wear (third in the long jump at 15 feet, 1 ½ inches), Loschen (fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in 20.78 seconds and sixth in the 400 meters in 1:11.68), Lucas Waters (fifth in the shot put at 26 feet) and Mason Ramm (fifth in the discus at 67 feet, 2 inches, and sixth in the shot put at 24 feet, 10 inches).
PVO’s 400-meter relay claimed third place.
Sharing the baton were Loschen, Waters, Hundley and Wear. Their cumulative time was 1:01.60.
Team honors in the seventh-grade boys’ 10-team meet went to Grant Park (59 points) which narrowly edged PVO (58 points).
