SJO Baseball wins Regional
By Fred Kroner
Tyler Altenbaumer pitched a three-hit shutout on Saturday (May 21) as St. Joseph-Ogden beat Clifton Central 10-0 in the championship baseball game of the Hoopeston Class 2A Regional.
Altenbaumer fanned nine batters and walked no one while improving his record to 10-0.
The regional crown was SJ-O’s ninth in a row for years that the IHSA has conducted a postseason series in baseball.
Hayden Brazelton and Charles Voorhees each had two hits for the Spartans. Brazelton scored two runs as did Tanner Jacob and Coy Taylor.
Luke Landrus and Adam Price each drove in two runs.
SJ-O (34-2) has a 26-game winning streak and will return to action on Wednesday (May 25) in the Millikin Sectional, in Decatur. The Spartans will play either Pontiac or Tremont, who face one another for a regional title on Monday (May 23) at Olympia High School, in Stanford.
The Spartans are one win away from tying the SJ-O record for wins in a season, set by the 2016 team, which was 35-4.
