Oakwood’s Austin McDaniel was a near-miss for a berth in the 110-meter hurdles state finals at the IHSA boys’ Class 1A track and field state meet.
In the Thursday (May 26) preliminary round, McDaniel was timed in 15.97 seconds. He ended in 11th place at state, but was .06 away from the No. 9 qualifier.
He was also a state-meet participant in the triple jump, where he finished in 31st place with a leap of 37 feet, 1 inch.
