St. Joseph’s “Trumpet” wins Best of Show

By Isabella Zarate

On Tuesday June 21 the 146th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show (presented by Purina Pro Plan) was held at the Lyndhurst Estate in Tarrytown, New York.

Each year dogs from all around participate in the event hoping to take home the prize.

This year St. Joseph’s very own won the title for the Hound Group and took home the honor of ‘Best in Show.’

Trumpet, a 4.5 year old male Bloodhound, was one of 442 other dogs within the Hound Group. He was also one amongst thousands of other entries.

Making history, Trumpet was the first ever bloodhound to take the top award.

Trumpet is officially known as GCHB CH Flessner’s Toot My Own Horn, and he was handled by Heather Buehner, and owned/bred by Chris and Bryan Flessner.

The event took place over three days, where Best of Breed Judging occurred, as well as Group and Best in Show Competitions, with Trumpet ranking highest in each round.

The Westminster Kennel Club, which was established in 1877 is America’s oldest organization focused on the sport of dogs. The organization is commonly known for hosting the all-breed Westminster Kennel Club dog show – the longest nationally televised live dog show since 1948.

The Club’s mission is to enhance the lives of all dogs, celebrate their companionship, and promote responsible dog ownership.
