SJ-O golf wins meet at Harrison Park, Oakwood finishes as runner-up

Medalist Ashten Cafarelli shot a 40 on Wednesday (Aug. 17) to lead St. Joseph-Ogden to victory in a three-school boys’ golf meet at Danville’s Harrison Park.
SJ-O’s team composite was 181. Runner-up Oakwood compiled a 201 and Westville finished at 264.
Other Spartan leaders were Jacob Kern (42), McGwire Atwood (49), Maddux Carter (50), Tyler Buss (51) and Jack Robertson (60). Kern was the third-place finisher.
Oakwood’s Case Kopacz posted a 41 and was second in the individual competition.
Other Comet scorers were Mason Goodner (52), Kyle McFarland (54) and Nate Stewart (54).
On Monday (Aug. 15), SJ-O’s Cafarelli fired a 78 and placed sixth individually in the 15-school Urbana Tiger Kick-off Classic.
Oakwood’s Kopacz was his team’s leader at the Urbana tournament, finishing with a 91.
SJ-O returns to action on Thursday (Aug. 25) at Rantoul’s Willow Pond against Fisher and Hoopeston Area.
Oakwood returns to action on Tuesday (Aug. 23) at Watseka’s Shewami Golf Course against the host school, Milford and Westville.
