Monticello hands Oakwood soccer its first loss

The Comets suffered their first loss of the season on Monday (Aug. 29), dropping a 3-1 decision at home to Monticello.
Reef Pacot got Oakwood/Salt Fork on the board, thanks to an assist from Grant Powell, and the teams were deadlocked, 1-1, at halftime.
The Comets’ Joshua Ruch finished with five saves.
Monticello held a 17-11 edge in total shots.
On Tuesday (Aug. 30), the Comets topped Hoopeston Area, 3-0, on the Cornjerkers’ field.
Powell and Brody Taflinger accounted for all of the team’s scoring. Powell netted two goals. Taflinger contributed two assists as well as an unassisted goal.
Ruch secured six saves in his third shutout of the season.
Oakwood/Salt Fork held a 24-9 edge in total shot attempts.
Oakwood/Salt Fork (3-1-1) returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 1) at Iroquois West. The Comets are 3-0 in Vermilion Valley Conference action, with each league win being by shutout.
