Oakwood Soccer registers third-consecutive shutout

Grant Powell scored a first-half hat trick on Saturday (Sept. 3) as the Oakwood/Salt Fork soccer team recorded its third consecutive shutout, a 7-0 win on the road against Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond.
Reef Pacot also collected two goals and two assists. Powell had one assist.
All of the scoring took place in the first half.
Ty Smoot and Saul Carrillo netted the other Oakwood/SF goals. Also contributing assists were Thomas Wells, Brody Taflinger and Smoot.
Goalkeeper Joshua Ruch finished with one save while posting his fifth shutout.
The Comets held a 21-2 edge in total shots.
On Thursday (Sept. 1), Powell notched two goals and assisted on another as the Comets remained unbeaten in Vermilion Valley Conference action with a 3-0 triumph over Iroquois West in Gilman.
Powell hit the match’s first goal, with an assist from Macen Phillips. Smoot nailed the other first-half goal, with Powell assisting.
Powell completed the scoring, thanks to a second-half assist by Smoot.
Oakwood/Salt Fork held a 38-1 edge on total shots.
Ruch had one save.
Oakwood/Salt Fork (5-1-1 overall) returns to action on Wednesday (Sept. 7) at home against Georgetown-Ridge Farm.
