Ruch breaks Oakwood Soccer record

Senior Joshua Ruch broke his own school record for shutouts in a season with his 10th on Tuesday (Sept. 13) as Oakwood/Salt Fork blanked visiting Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, 5-0.
The Comets led, 4-0, at halftime.
Ruch collected a season-high seven saves. He previously set the record for season shutouts with nine as a junior.
Reef Pacot netted two goals and Grant Powell contributed two assists in the victory.
Powell also had a goal as did Jacob Pricer and Saul Carrillo. Teammates with assists were Macen Phillips, Ty Smoot and Brody Taflinger.
On Wednesday (Sept. 14), the Comets fought to a 1-1 draw with Urbana Uni High.
The Illineks scored first and Oakwood/SF made the equalizer when Powell scored, with an assist from Smoot.
The match was scoreless in the second half.
For the second day in a row, Ruch hit a season’s high for saves, with 11.
Uni held a 19-15 edge in total shots.
Oakwood (11-2-2) returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 15) at home against Schlarman Academy. The Comets are 6-0 in Vermilion Valley Conference matches.
