Spartans finish fourth at Spartan Classic

St. Joseph-Ogden’s boys’ cross-country team ended fourth in the Saturday (Sept. 17) 22-team Spartan Classic.
Meet champion Decatur St. Teresa had a composite score of 60 points. SJ-O was fourth with 114 points.
The top five SJ-O runners completed the 2-mile course within 40 seconds of one another, led by Jack Fisher, who finished 14th with a time of 16 minutes, 10.32 seconds.
Trailing him were Lance Retz (20th in 16:20.44), Mason Guido (23rd in 16:25.29), Isiah Mock (25th in 16:36.13) and Aden Armstrong (32nd in 16:50.29).
Other Spartan finishers were Ethan Blackburn (47th in 17:10.50) and Holden Jones (50th in 17:13.69).
There were 169 competitors.
In the girls’ Spartan Classic, Savanna Franzen was seventh in a field of 140 participants. Her 2-mile time was 18 minutes, 2.08 seconds.
Other SJ-O runners were Chloe Burkhalter (16th in 19:06.32), Hannah Mock (61st in 21:47.36), Sophia Kasper (62nd in 21:47.72), Kaytlyn Baker (70th in 22:21.80) and Sydney Steinbach (74th in 22:33.71).
SJ-O returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 1) in an invitational at Terre Haute, Ind.
