Case Kopacz advances to Class 1A Golf Sectional

Oakwood senior Case Kopacz shot an 83 on Wednesday (Sept. 28) in the IHSA Class 1A regional golf tournament at Willow Pond Golf Course, in Rantoul, and advanced to the sectional.
Kopacz was one of 10 individuals from the field of 80 competitors to continue their season. The top three teams also qualified for the sectional.
In all 13 meets in which he has participated this season, Kopacz was the Comets’ medalist.
Other scores for the Comets were Kyle McFarland (102), Mason Goodner (112), Riley Whaling (132) and Gage Warren (144).
In the team chase, St. Thomas More and St. Joseph-Ogden took the top two spots after compiling scores of 330 and 336, respectively. Oakwood placed 11th with a total of 429.
On Monday (Sept. 26), Kopacz tied for medalist honors in the final golf meet of the regular season for Oakwood.
He fired a 40 in a five-school meet at Hoopeston.
Other scores for the Comets were Goodner (52), McFarland (56), Warren (58) and Lily Harden (76).
In the meet at Shewami Golf Course, near Watseka, Illinois Lutheran was the meet winner with a team composite of 178, followed by Milford (192), Oakwood (206), Donovan (208) and Hoopeston Area (212).
Oakwood finishes with an 11-14 season record.
