Franzen finishes 31st at race in Terre Haute

St. Joseph-Ogden’s Savanna Franzen placed 31st on Saturday in a 293-runner girls’ cross-country race at Terre Haute, Ind.
Franzen ran the 5,000-meter course in 18 minutes, 48.2 seconds.
The other SJ-O athlete in the varsity race was Chloe Burkhalter (178th in 21:14.2).
The Spartans didn’t have enough runners to be scored as a team in the varsity or junior varsity races.
The three SJ-O runners in the 246-person JV race were Kaytlyn Baker (60th in 23:08.6), Hannah Mock (67th in 23:16.0) and Sydney Steinbach (69th in 23:21.8).
In the boys’ varsity division, the top five SJ-O runners in the 37-school field finished within 30 seconds of one another.
Isaih Mock was 219th in 17:29.0 for the 5,000-meter layout. Teammates trailing close behind were Lance Retz (220th in 17:29.1), Mason Guido (244th in 17:39.0), Jack Fisher (253rd in 17:41.0) and Ethan Blackburn (263rd in 17:49.9).
Rounding out the Spartans’ varsity lineup were Holden Jones (290th in 18:16.8) and Joe Griebat (319th in 19:09.8).
SJ-O wound up in 36th place with a composite score of 1,012.
In the 363-runner JV race, three Spartans participated.
Cyrus Zadeh was 268th in 21:40.7, E.J. Beckett was 292nd in 22:13.2 and Logan Xiao was 310th in 22:48.7.
SJ-O will return to action on Tuesday (Oct. 4) in the Illini Prairie Conference Meet at St. Thomas More.
