Oakwood soccer season comes to an end in regional play

Oakwood/Salt Fork dropped a tough 5-3 decision to Urbana Uni High on Tuesday (Oct. 11) in a semifinal game of an IHSA Class 1A regional in Champaign.
Ethan Merritt tallied two of the Comets’ goals. Reef Pacot registered the team’s other goal.
Turning in assists were Brody Taflinger, Macen Phillips and Ty Smoot.
Goalkeeper Joshua Ruch produced 10 saves, his second-best tally of the season.
Uni High held a 31-15 edge on total shots.
Oakwood/Salt Fork ends with a program record 20-5-2 overall record. The previous mark for wins in a season was 18, set one year ago.
Seven Comets tallied at least 10 goals this season, led by Grant Powell’s record-setting total of 31. Other team leaders were Pacot (22), Phillips (13), Saul Carrillo (13), Smoot (12), Taflinger (12) and Jacob Pricer (10).
Five squad members recorded at least 10 assists, led by Powell’s 27. Taflinger had 18 assists and was followed by Phillips (15), Pacot (13) and Smoot (13).
Oakwood/Salt Fork netted 127 goals for the season.
