Mustangs begin season with seven wins

The seventh-grade Prairieview Ogden girls’ basketball team won its first seven games of the season.
PVO opened the year with a 29-28 triumph at home against Cissna Park on Sept. 20. Greta Goldenstein tallied nine points while both Kellyn Irwin and Atleigh Miller chipped in with eight points.
The Mustangs topped Chrisman, 40-9, on Sept. 22 behind an 11-point effort from Irwin. Makayla Hesterberg contributed 10 points and Miller recorded seven points.
On Sept. 26, PVO overpowered Hoopeston, 40-2. Hesterberg hit 14 points and Miller totaled 12.
The winning streak continued on Sept. 27 at Bismarck-Henning, 28-16. Miller tossed in 21 points. Goldenstein registered three points.
Miller put in 16 points on Sept. 29 in a 36-20 win at home over Salt Fork. Korinne Travis scored six points.
The sixth win came on Oct. 6 at home, a 25-17 verdict over Oakwood. Isabella Frerichs led the way with seven points and Miller wound up with six points.
The PVO eighth-grade team includes just four eighth-graders, so several seventh-graders fill out the roster.
The Mustangs are 1-5 in eighth-grade games.
PVO fell in its opener to Cissna Park, 41-23. Irwin scored eight points and Olivia Berlatsky added five points.
The Mustangs captured a 32-12 win over Chrisman, led by Emerson Williams with eight points. Irwin and Miller each collected six points.
Hoopeston edged PVO, 21-17, despite seven points from Miller and five from Williams.
Bismarck-Henning also scored a narrow win over PVO, 31-24. Miller made 11 points. Ending with four points apiece were Anna Hammond, Irwin and Williams.
PVO dropped a 39-18 decision to Salt Fork. Irwin’s six points were a team high. Hammond and Williams finished with four points apiece.
On Oct. 6, Oakwood nipped PVO, 24-21. Miller tallied 10 points. Goldenstein and Travis each totaled four points.
Both PVO teams return to action on Thursday (Oct. 20) at Villa Grove.
