Heritage cross country season comes to end at Sectional meet

The cross-country season ended for the Heritage Hawks on Saturday (Oct. 28) in the IHSA Class 1A Sectional, hosted by St. Joseph-Ogden, at Dodds Park, in Champaign.
The Hawks placed 17th in the 21-school field with a team composite of 427 points. Sectional team titlist Decatur St. Teresa had a winning team score of 77 points.
The Heritage competitors were Aidan Ashbrook (67th in 17:18.21), Rowan Denmark-Collins (70th in 17:21.58), Cohen Sands (106th in 18:20.72), Eli Denmark-Collins (113th in 18:35.56), Hunter Montgomery (122nd in 18:52.27) and Joshua Stierwalt (154th in 20:39.83).
The Hawks were without their top runner from the regular season. Zach Ruwe was sidelined with a foot injury and missed both postseason races.
The team’s postseason lineup included one senior, two juniors, two sophomores and two freshmen. The senior was Rowan Denmark-Collins.
