Panther basketball breaks two-game losing streak with win over Rantoul Eater

The St. Joseph Junior High eighth-grade girls’ basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak on Thursday (Oct. 27) with a 19-12 win at home over Rantoul Eater.
Adeline Stevens bagged a team-high six points. Hayden Dahl and Kiah Riesel both notched four points. Maggie Hewkin chipped in with three points and Abigail Crider scored two points.
On Monday (Oct. 24), Urbana posted a 35-22 win at St. Joseph. Dahl and Riesel tallied five points. Ending with four points apiece were Crider, Hewkin and Stevens.
On Thursday (Oct. 20), St. Matthew edged the Panthers in Champaign, 22-15. Dahl made six points, Crider finished with five points, Stevens had three points and Mia Jones hit one free throw.
The eighth-graders have a 3-9 season record.

The St. Joseph seventh-graders saw their losing streak reach four games after a heartbreaking three-overtime loss at home to Rantoul Eater, 22-20, on Thursday (Oct. 27).
Ainsley Dirksmeyer tossed in six points. Megan Kearney, Avery Lappin and Brooklyn Stevens all contributed four points. Avery Haley and Ava Alexander both made a free throw.
Against Urbana, St. Joseph suffered a 26-8 loss. Dirksmeyer was the leading scorer with four points. Alexander and Kearney each recorded two points.
Against St. Matthew, St. Joseph dropped a 23-5 decision. Kearney made three points and Dirksmeyer had two.
The seventh-graders have a 4-8 season record.
Both St. Joseph teams return to action on Saturday (Nov. 12) at Hoopeston.
