Panthers open season with Monticello Tournament championship

The St. Joseph Panthers’ eighth-grade boys’ basketball team opened the season with five consecutive victories, including a championship at the Monticello Tournament.
The Panthers won three games in four days at Monticello, opening on Tuesday (Nov. 1) with a 42-28 win over Prairieview Ogden and following with conquests over Tuscola, 32-20, on Wednesday (Nov. 2) and Monticello, 29-22, on Friday (Nov. 4).
St. Joseph continued its series of road games with wins at Next Generation, in Champaign, 46-15, on Monday (Nov. 7) and at Tolono Unity, 30-25, on Tuesday (Nov. 8).
Cam Wagner (17 points) and Nolan Franzen (10 points) were the scoring leaders against PVO. Wagner netted 10 points against Tuscola and Franzen was tops (12 points), followed by Wagner (10 points) against Monticello.
Wagner hit 14, Franzen chipped in with 12 and Tyler Hess contributed six against Next Generation. Wagner recorded 10, Franzen had nine and Waylon Jones ended with five against Unity.
The Panthers return to action on Thursday (Nov. 17) at home against Schlarman Academy.
