Comets open season with back-to-back wins

Oakwood’s boys’ basketball team posted wins on back-to-back nights at the Toyota of Danville Classic at St. Joseph-Ogden High School.
The Comets boost a 7-0 record – with all games played away from home – after edging Paxton-Buckley-Loda, 51-48, on Monday (Nov. 28) and then handing Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond a 63-38 setback on Tuesday (Nov. 29).
Oakwood trailed after each of the first three quarters against PBL, but connected on 17 of 25 free throws to beat the Panthers.
Brody Taflinger, who connected on 9 of 11 free throw attempts, netted a team-high 14 points. Jackson Dudley, Alec Harrison and Tanner Pichon all added 11 points.
Against AL/AH, Dudley poured in a season-high 17 points. Pichon contributed 12 points. Harrison and Josh Ruch both made 11 points.
Oakwood returns to action on Friday (Dec. 2) in the 5 p.m. game at SJ-O against Danville Schlarman Academy (1-2). With a win, the Comets will move into the Saturday (Dec. 3) championship game at 5:30 p.m.
