Comets win Vermilion Valley Conference opener

Addie Wright poured in a season-high 21 points on Monday (Dec. 5) as Oakwood won its Vermilion Valley Conference girls’ basketball opener, 41-22, at Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin.
Wright tallied nine of her points in the opening quarter as the Comets built a 15-4 edge after eight minutes of action.
Nikita Taylor contributed 11 points, her fourth game in a row hitting that mark.
On Wednesday (Dec. 7), the Comets’ two-game winning streak was stopped with a 37-23 loss at Armstrong-Potomac.
Jaydah Arrowsmith recorded a team-high nine points for the Comets.
Oakwood was held scoreless in the first quarter and to one first-half field goal while falling behind, 24-3. Taylor had five points and Wright ended with four points.
Oakwood (5-4 overall) will return to action on Monday (Dec. 12) at home against Watseka.
