Hug’s 21-points helps St. Joseph-Ogden defeat Cissna Park

For the third time in her last four games, Taylor Hug popped in five shots from three-point range on Monday (Dec. 19) as St. Joseph-Ogden pulled away from visiting Cissna Park in the second half for a 50-41 non-conference girls’ basketball win.
Hug tallied a game-high 21 points.
Addison Frick made 14 points, Addy Martinie scored 10 points and Addie Seggebruch finished with four points. Ellie Ward added a free throw.
The Spartans held a slender 21-19 lead at halftime, but carried a 39-27 cushion into the final quarter. Hug (seven points) and Martinie (six points) led the third-stanza charge.
On Wednesday (Dec. 21), SJ-O won at Oakwood, 56-23, in a game where six different players knocked down three-point shots.
Frick led the way with four three-pointers and a game-high 20 points. Seggebruch hit one three-pointer and added 10 points.
Other Spartans who connected on three-pointers were Hug (two), Kaytlyn Baker (one), Addie Brooks (one) and Sammy Uden (one).
The Spartans, who have won three of their last four games, had doubled the score by halftime, 25-12.
SJ-O (6-7) returns to action on Tuesday (Dec. 27) in the State Farm Classic at various Bloomington-Normal high schools. The Spartans are the No. 12 seed in the 16-school small-school division and open with fifth-seeded Sherrard at 1:30 p.m. at Normal Community High School.
