Comets place fifth in Monticello Hoopla Classic

Dalton Hobick totaled a season-high 22 points on Wednesday (Dec. 28) as Oakwood’s boys’ basketball team dispatched Paxton-Buckley-Loda, 61-48, in the fifth-place game of the Monticello Hoopla Classic.
Alec Harrison tallied 14 points and Tanner Pichon fired in 10 points.
The Comets led, 19-11, after one period and 31-27 at halftime.
On Tuesday (Dec. 27), Oakwood rebounded from two losses in the first day of the tournament to edge Ridgeview, 51-48.
Pichon led a balanced scoring attack with 13 points. Harrison and Hobick each added 12 points. Brody Taflinger chipped in with nine points.
Ridgeview held a 27-26 halftime lead, but the schools were tied, 40-40, entering the last stanza.
Harrison and Hobick each tallied four of their points in the fourth quarter.
In first-round action on Monday (Dec. 26), the Comets lost to Monticello, 59-53, and to Clinton, 57-49.
Hobick hit a game-high 16 points against Monticello. Taflinger registered 12 points and Josh Ruch netted eight points.
The teams were tied, 15-15, after one period. Monticello worked its way into a 31-28 halftime bulge.
Against Clinton, Pichon totaled 16 points. Recording eight points apiece were Hobick, Ruch and Taflinger.
The Comets held a 27-26 halftime lead and the game was tied, 37-37, entering the final eight minutes of action.
Oakwood (11-5) returns to action on Tuesday (Jan. 3) at home against Hoopeston Area.
