Oakwood girls’ basketball to play for fifth-place in BH/RA holiday tournament

Oakwood split its first four games in the Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin girls’ basketball holiday tournament.
The Comets upended Lexington, 46-37, on Tuesday (Dec. 27) before falling to Cissna Park, 52-29.
Addie Wright’s 18 points set the pace against Lexington. She nailed 8 of 10 free throws en route to her game-high total.
Jaydah Arrowsmith and Nikita Taylor each tallied 10 points.
Oakwood built a 23-16 halftime cushion.
Against Cissna Park, Taylor’s 10 points was the team’s best output. Wright contributed nine points and Arrowsmith finished with four points.
Cissna Park carved a 26-20 halftime lead.
On Wednesday (Dec. 28), the Comets again split their two tournament contests. Oakwood toppled Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, 39-18, but dropped a 67-28 decision to Benton Central, from Indiana.
Against B-H/R-A, Wright matched her season’s high with a 21-point outburst. She netted 5-of-7 free throws.
Arrowsmith tallied 10 points. Both Arrowsmith and Wright dropped in six points apiece in the third quarter as the Comets extended a 16-9 halftime cushion into a 29-13 lead entering the fourth frame.
Against Benton Central, Cherokee Hanner tallied a season-high 12 points to lead Oakwood. Wright added 11 points.
Benton Central led, 21-2, after one stanza and 45-15 at halftime.
Oakwood (9-9) returns to action on Thursday (Dec. 29) against North Vermillion (Ind.) at 2:30 p.m. in the fifth-place game. Benton Central and Cissna Park are playing in the 7 p.m. championship game.
