Brazelton and Birt go undefeated in Robinson

Holden Brazelton and Owen Birt were each 5-0 on Saturday (Jan. 7) for the St. Joseph-Ogden wrestling team, which won three of five dual meets at Robinson.

The 132-pound Brazelton posted four pins (three in the first period) in addition to gaining one forfeit. His quickest pin came in 59 seconds.

The 220-pound Birt recorded three pins and added two forfeit wins. His fastest fall was in 36 seconds.

The Spartans defeated Mount Carmel (62-18), Toledo Cumberland (42-39) and Paris (66-24) to go with narrow losses against Lawrenceville (39-38) and Robinson (45-36).

SJ-O wrestlers who compiled a 4-1 record for the day were Gary Page (106 pounds), Emmit Holt (113 and 120 pounds) and Peyton Sarver (195 pounds).

Page pinned three opponents, the fastest in one minute. Holt secured one pin (in 1:09) along with a 15-0 technical fall victory. Sarver secured three pins, including one in nine seconds.

Spartans with a 3-2 mark for the event were Jackson Walsh (113 and 120 pounds), Landon Butts (138 pounds), Coy Hays (152 pounds) and Devan Swisher (160 pounds).

Butts collected one pin as well as a 17-0 technical fall win. Hays ended one match with a pin in 1:03. Swisher’s lone fall came in 3:20.

Another teammate with pins was Brandon Goodwin (126 pounds). The fastest of his two falls took place in 36 seconds. Davin Alverez (145 pounds) produced two pins in less than a minute, including one in 21 seconds. Gabe Mata (182 pounds) registered a pin in 1:03.

Kyle Meccoli (285 pounds) did not have a pin, but pulled out a 3-1 overtime win with a takedown.

In an exhibition match at 126 pounds, SJ-O’s Lexi Wirth scored a 41-second pin at 126 pounds against her opponent from Robinson.

SJ-O returns to action on Tuesday (Jan. 10) at South Vermillion (Ind.) in a meet that will also include Hoopeston Area.
