Spartans open Illini Prairie Conference play with a win

Addison Frick fired in 17 points on Thursday (Jan. 5) as the St. Joseph-Ogden girls’ basketball team opened Illini Prairie Conference play with a 57-47 win at home over Pontiac.
Taylor Hug scored 12 points, Addy Martinie had 11 points, Addie Seggebruch totaled six points and Timera Blackburn-Kelly ended with five points.
SJ-O drained eight three-point shots. Hug sank four shots from long range. Martinie swished two three-pointers. Blackburn-Kelly and Frick each netted one three-pointer.
SJ-O and Pontiac were tied, 9-9, after one quarter but the Spartans surged into a 26-18 lead at halftime. Hug tallied nine of her points in the second stanza and Frick made six of her points in the same quarter.
SJ-O, which snapped a four-game losing streak, is 7-11 overall and returns to action on Monday (Jan. 9) at Prairie Central.
