Hawks open volleyball season with win over AL/AH

The Heritage eighth-grade girls’ volleyball team opened its season on Thursday (Jan. 5) with a three-set victory at Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, 25-23, 9-25, 25-10.
The eighth-graders continued their winning ways on Monday (Jan. 9) with a 25-11, 25-21 triumph at Arcola.
In their home-opener on Tuesday (Jan. 10), Heritage (2-1) suffered its first loss to Armstrong-Potomac/Gifford, 25-17, 25-23.
The school’s seventh-grade A team lost at A-L/A-H, 25-12, 25-17 while the B team prevailed, 25-11, 25-16.
The A team rebounded for a win at Arcola, 25-9, 25-11. The B team played a 25-minute match and came out victorious, 42-18.
In the Tuesday match, the Heritage A team (1-2) dropped a 25-8, 25-16 decision at home to Armstrong-Potomac/Gifford.
The B team match with A-P/Gifford ended in a tie as the teams traded sets. A-P/Gifford claimed the first set, 22-15, but Heritage captured the second one, 21-15.
The Heritage squads return to action on Thursday (Jan. 12) at Rossville-Alvin.
The junior high teams will also be in action on Saturday (Jan. 14) in a tournament at Cerro Gordo.
The seventh-graders have matches scheduled for 8 a.m. (vs. Cerro Gordo/Bement), 10 a.m. (vs. Decatur Lutheran) and noon (vs. LeRoy).
The eighth-graders will take the court at 9 a.m. (vs. Cerro Gordo/Bement), 11 a.m. (vs. Decatur Lutheran) and 1 p.m. (vs. LeRoy).
