Dalton Hobick canned six three-point shots and netted a game-high 26 points on Saturday (Jan. 14) as third-seeded Oakwood opened the Vermilion County Tournament with a 60-34 victory over fifth-seeded Westville at Danville Area Community College.
Hobick tallied 11 of his points in the first quarter as the Comets zoomed into an 18-8 lead.
Alec Harrison generated 13 points, Josh Ruch had eight points, Brody Taflinger wound up with seven points and Tanner Pichon totaled six points.
Oakwood dropped in 7 of 9 free throw attempts, and led 34-16 at halftime.
The Comets (14-6) return to action on Tuesday (Jan. 17) against seventh-seeded Armstrong-Potomac at 5 p.m. at DACC.
