Oakwood to continue play in consolation bracket at Vermilion County Tournament

Third-seeded Oakwood was thrust into the consolation bracket at the Vermilion County Tournament with a first-round 39-32 loss to fifth-seeded Hoopeston Area on Friday (Jan. 13) at Danville Area Community College.
The Comets had won two previous meetings against the Cornjerkers, including one by 20 points.
Jaydah Arrowsmith led Oakwood with 10 points. Addie Wright made seven points and Cherokee Hanner ended with six points.
Hoopeston built an eight-point lead at halftime, 25-17.
The Comets finished 10-for-19 from the free throw line.
On Thursday (Jan. 12), Wright tallied 17 points and Nikita Taylor netted 16 points as Oakwood won its fourth game during its last five outings, 47-34, at home over Georgetown-Ridge Farm.
Wright made nine of her points in the opening quarter as the Comets opened up a 14-9 lead.
Bella Bradford added five points for Oakwood, which extended its lead to 40-28 after three quarters.
Third-seeded Oakwood (12-10) returns to action on Monday (Jan. 16) against seventh-seeded Hoopeston Area in the Vermilion County Tournament at DACC.
