Spartans rebound with win over Maroa-Forsyth

St. Joseph-Ogden’s boys’ basketball team rebounded from a loss on Friday (Jan. 13) at Pontiac, 75-61, with a win on Saturday (Jan. 14) at Maroa-Forsyth, 76-54.
Ty Pence put together a 16-point, nine-rebound, six-assist performance at Maroa.
Logan Smith contributed to a balanced scoring attack with 15 points. Tanner Jacob also netted 15 points, Tanner Siems hit 10 points and Coy Taylor tacked on nine points.
Smith and McGwire Atwood each cleared five rebounds. Caleb Ochs ended with four rebounds.
SJ-O hit nine three-point shots with six players knocking down long-range shots: Jacob, Logan Lackey, Pence, Siems, Smith and Taylor.
At Pontiac, Pence tossed in 26 points – the 14th time he has exceeded 20 points as a senior – and Smith tallied 17 points to go with seven rebounds and three assists. Siems ended with nine points.
Atwood, Ochs and Taylor all hauled down three rebounds.
The Spartans (14-3) are ranked sixth in the state in Class 2A and return to action on Tuesday (Jan. 17) at home against second-ranked Prairie Central.
