Oakwood to play in third-place game of Vermilion County Conference Tournament

The third-seeded Oakwood girls’ basketball team bounced back from a first-round loss in the Vermilion County Tournament with a 32-24 conquest of seventh-seeded Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin on Monday (Jan. 16) at Danville Area Community College.
Cherokee Hanner led the Comets with a game-high 13 points. Addie Wright added 10 points, five coming in the third quarter as Oakwood moved a 23-19 lead into the final eight-point margin.
Adding four points apiece were Jaydah Arrowsmith and Kalie Tison.
On Wednesday (Jan. 18), second-seeded Armstrong-Potomac took down the Comets, 35-18.
A-P built a 13-2 halftime lead. The only Oakwood points in the first two quarters was a basket by Hanner.
Wright totaled a team-high eight points, knocking down two three-point shots. Tison chipped in with four points.
Oakwood (13-11) returns to action on Friday (Jan. 20) at DACC in the third-place game against fourth-seeded Georgetown-Ridge Farm.
Other Friday matchups are the championship game between Salt Fork and Armstrong-Potomac and the fifth-place game between Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin and Westville. The evening’s activities start at 5 p.m. with the fifth-place contest.
