Spartans comeback to defeat Mattoon

Senior Taylor Hug and junior Addy Martinie sparked a massive St. Joseph-Ogden comeback on Monday (Jan. 23) that resulted in the Spartans claiming a girls’ basketball win at home over Mattoon, 52-49.
Mattoon held a 32-19 halftime lead before Hug and Martinie helped SJ-O roar into a 45-41 lead after three quarters. Hug hit nine of her team-high 20 points in the third frame and Martinie notched eight of her 17 points in the first eight minutes after halftime.
Addison Frick chipped in with eight points and Addie Seggebruch contributed six points. Frick netted five of her points during the team’s 26-9 third-quarter scoring spree.
After reeling off its third consecutive win, SJ-O is 10-13 entering a Friday (Jan. 27) game at Bloomington Central Catholic.
