SJ-O girls basketball on late-season surge

Addy Martinie fired in 19 points and Addison Frick was close behind with 18 points on Friday (Jan. 27) as the St. Joseph-Ogden girls’ basketball team posted a 54-45 victory at Bloomington Central Catholic.
SJ-O carried a 36-35 lead into the final quarter. Frick hit 4-of-4 free throws down the stretch to help the Spartans pull away.
Addie Seggebruch tallied nine points and Taylor Hug hit four points, all in the last quarter.
On Saturday (Jan. 28), the Spartans continued their late-season surge at Monticello, edging South Central, 43-40, in the Illini Prairie/Sangamo Conference Shootout.
Hug connected on four three-point shots and scored 14 points. Martinie also tallied 14 points.
SJ-O trailed at halftime, 22-20, and was down 35-32 after three quarters.
The Spartans (12-13) return to action on Monday (Jan. 30) at home against Rantoul. SJ-O has a five-game winning streak.
