Spartans defeat Charleston at home

For the third time this season, Ty Pence and Logan Smith hit the 20-point mark in the same game on Friday (Jan 27) as the St. Joseph-Ogden boys’ basketball team topped visiting Monticello, 66-53, in an Illini Prairie Conference contest.
Pence totaled a game-high 23 points. Smith made 20 points.
Tanner Jacob scored 10 points and McGwire Atwood chipped in with seven points.
Smith hauled down a team-high eight rebounds and led the Spartans with five assists. Jacob handled five rebounds and added three assists. Pence had three rebounds and three assists.
On Saturday (Jan. 28), the Spartans dispatched Charleston, 56-51 at home.
Smith led the way with 18 points, Coy Taylor had 17 points and Tanner Siems ended with 13 points.
Smith had five rebounds and three assists. Siems pulled down four rebounds.
Atwood grabbed five rebounds.
SJ-O was without Pence, who was sidelined with an injury. He needs 29 points to become the school’s career scoring leader.
SJ-O (19-4) has a five-game winning streak and returns to action on Wednesday (Feb. 1) against Bloomington Central Catholic.
